Upper Austria's 1918 emergency issue belongs to the chaotic final weeks of Habsburg dissolution, when provincial governments scrambled to fill the void left by a collapsing imperial monetary system. The Land Österreich ob der Enns printed these locally in Linz rather than waiting on Vienna — a practical decision that reflected how completely central authority had disintegrated by autumn 1918.

Notgeld of this type circulated briefly before Austrian federal consolidation rendered most provincial emissions obsolete. Survival rates vary sharply by denomination; the 5 Kronen sees moderate scarcity compared to higher values from the same series.
