Obverse description The Czechoslovak Socialist coat of arms (1961–1990 version), featuring a shield with a lion and the Kriváň mountain with a linden branch, occupies the central field. The year of mintage appears below the arms in the lower field. A continuous circular legend surrounding the central device reads the full official name of the state. The design is executed in a clean, engraved style characteristic of mid-twentieth-century Central European coinage.

Reverse description The denomination numeral '5' appears prominently in the upper field, accompanied by the currency abbreviation 'Kčs' to its left. The central and lower fields feature an abstract decorative composition incorporating a stylized floral motif with cranes in flight, a design created by engraver Jiří Harcuba whose name appears as a signature in the field. A five-pointed star is present as an additional socialist emblem. The overall reverse design exemplifies the modernist artistic approach Harcuba brought to Czechoslovak coinage of the period.
