The 1961 Czechoslovak 5 Korun belongs to a series introduced after the brutal 1953 monetary reform, which wiped out personal savings by exchanging old crowns at punishing rates — 50:1 for amounts above a small threshold. The low-denomination notes that followed circulated in an economy still absorbing that shock, and the 5 Korun in particular turned over heavily in everyday retail use throughout the 1960s.
Státní Tiskárna Cenin, the state security printer in Prague, handled the entire series domestically. Heavily circulated examples are common; uncirculated survivors are less so than their print volumes might suggest.
