Comments

Issued to mark the thirtieth anniversary of the Bank of Papua New Guinea, which was established in 1973 following independence from Australian administration. Note Printing Australia in Melbourne has been the dominant supplier of Papua New Guinean currency since the kina's introduction, making this a continuation of a long commercial relationship rather than a one-off commemorative commission.

Commemorative datings in the Pacific island series from NPA during this period were typically issued in polymer for longevity, which makes this paper composition an outlier worth noting for type collectors.
