Obverse description Central oval vignette of a classical Chinese gate pavilion with an arched stone bridge over water, surrounded by an intricate guilloche underprint on an olive-green ground. The large Chinese characters 伍角 (Five Jiao) appear to the left and right of the vignette, with the place name 哈爾濱 (Harbin) in oval cartouches at each side. The title inscription 中國銀行兌換券 runs along the top, with the serial number and date 六十月 民國中華 at the foot of the note.

Reverse description Elaborate central cartouche with a large ornate scrollwork design enclosing the denomination numeral 50 CENTS in bold letterpress, set against a dense guilloche background in olive-green. BANK OF CHINA is inscribed in an arc at the top, with bilingual marginal text 每十角兌換國幣券一元 in Chinese on both side panels. The date OCTOBER 1ST 1917, place name HARBIN, and two manuscript signatures with their titles (ACCT. and MANAGER) appear along the lower portion of the note. The imprint reads: BUREAU OF ENGRAVING AND PRINTING PEKING CHINA.
