| Obverse description | The obverse is divided vertically by a central mast or antenna pole, with a panoramic depiction of the Akademik Vernadsky Antarctic research station occupying the lower portion of the field. To the left, an iceberg and the Ukrainian flag are rendered in low relief against a stylized background of directional arrows arranged along the rim. The trident arms badge of Ukraine appears at upper right beneath the arc legend НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК, with УКРАЇНА and the denomination 5 ГРИВЕНЬ prominently inscribed in the right field. The date 2006 is positioned to the left of the central mast, and the mint mark of the Banknote Printing and Minting Works appears at the lower center. |
