| Obverse description | Against a smooth central field, twelve symbols of the oriental zodiac calendar are arranged in a circle, with a stylized clock at the center whose hand points to the rat symbol, denoting the current year; the issue year 2020 appears below the clock hand. The trident small coat of arms of Ukraine is positioned at the top, accompanied by the semicircular Cyrillic legend УКРАЇНА curving to its right. The denomination 5 ГРИВЕНЬ appears in a semicircular legend at the lower left, while the mint mark of the NBU Banknote Printing and Minting Works is situated to the right, above the tiger zodiac symbol.
