Part of Ukraine's long-running "Fauna of Ukraine" series, this issue celebrates the grey wolf at a moment when the species had become a flashpoint in domestic conservation debates — culling quotas remained officially sanctioned through the 2010s, even as ecologists documented population pressure from habitat fragmentation in the Carpathian and Polisian zones. The selective gold gilding applied locally to the coin was produced at the Kyiv mint, which had been refining its commemorative striking program through the 2000s into one of the more technically ambitious in the post-Soviet space.
