The Magura V5 is a Ukrainian-developed autonomous naval drone that gained international attention in 2024 after being credited with striking and sinking Russian Black Sea Fleet vessels, including the landing ship Caesar Kunikov in February of that year. Developed under the auspices of Ukraine's Security Service, it operates without crew at ranges exceeding 400 kilometers. The National Bank of Ukraine has issued a series of coins commemorating domestic weapons systems developed or deployed since the 2022 invasion — this piece falls within that program.
Struck in nickel brass rather than silver, consistent with the lower-denomination commemorative format Ukraine has used for military-themed issues aimed at broad domestic circulation.
