| Additional information |
Sevastopol has been administered by Russia as a federal city since its annexation of Crimea in 2014, making this 2018 Ukrainian issue a pointed political statement in coin form. Ukraine never recognized the annexation and has continued issuing currency asserting sovereignty over both Crimea and Sevastopol — this piece belongs to that deliberate series.
The coin was struck four years into the ongoing territorial dispute, a period when such issues circulated nowhere near their nominal subject city.
