Obverse description At center, the small State Emblem of Ukraine (trident) divides the two-line legend naming the issuing bank along the upper periphery, with the denomination below and the date to the right. Within a raised inner circle, a prominent Orthodox cross rises from the center, flanked by semi-circular inscriptions and surrounded by radiating rays emanating from above, evoking a divine light motif. The design is executed in a flat relief style typical of Ukrainian commemorative coinage of this period.

Reverse description The reverse bears a richly detailed multi-figure bas-relief composition commemorating the Baptism of Kievan Rus in 988 AD. At center, a crowned prince — identifiable as Volodymyr the Great — stands prominently flanked by ecclesiastical and courtly figures, with a large processional cross rising behind him and a radiant dove symbol above; to either side, groups of people are depicted entering or standing in the stylized waters of the Dnieper River, rendered as undulating wave lines in the lower field. A bishop or priest figure at right holds a liturgical book, while crowds of newly baptized faithful fill the flanking lower portions of the composition. The date "988" appears in large numerals in the lower field, with the word "РІК" (meaning "year") directly beneath, and the curved legend "ХРЕЩЕННЯ КИЇВСЬКОЇ РУСІ" arcs along the upper periphery.
