| Obverse description | The obverse features the small State Coat of Arms of Ukraine at the top, with the inscription УКРАЇНА (Ukraine) immediately below it and the denomination 5 ГРИВЕНЬ to the right. At the center, a stylized symbolic 'wheel of life' composition presents the international radiation hazard trefoil entwined with foliage, encircled by relief depictions of wildlife inhabiting the 30-kilometer Chornobyl exclusion zone, including black storks, Przewalski's horses, lynx, bison, elk, and brown bear, all rendered against a mirror-polished field.
