| Obverse description | The obverse features a stylized allegorical composition centered on a radiant sun with swirling, flame-like rays, at the center of which is set the small Ukrainian State Emblem (tryzub). Extending from behind the sun, the outstretched wing of a large bird — rendered in a flowing, Art Nouveau-inspired style — sweeps across the field from left to right, accompanied by two smaller birds in flight toward the upper right. A beaded inner border frames the central design. The Cyrillic legend УКРАЇНА arcs along the upper rim, with the date 2003 below it, while the denomination 5 ГРИВЕНЬ is inscribed at the bottom of the field. The mint mark appears to the lower left within the beaded border. |

| Reverse description | The reverse depicts a highly detailed lateral profile view of the Antonov AN-2 single-engine biplane, shown on the ground with its characteristic broad upper and lower wings, radial engine with four-bladed propeller, fixed undercarriage, and fabric-covered fuselage rendered with fine engraved linework. The aircraft is positioned centrally within a beaded inner border. The Cyrillic inscription ЛІТАКИ УКРАЇНИ arcs along the upper rim. At the lower portion of the field, the designation АН-2 appears to the left and AN-2 in Latin characters to the right, flanking the mint mark of the Banknote Printing and Minting Works of the National Bank of Ukraine. |
