Reverse description Central shield bearing the rampant lion of Hesse, draped with an elaborately rendered mantle tied with tasselled cords and surmounted by a royal crown. The denomination FÜNF GULDEN is divided across the upper field to either side of the crown, while the date 1842 is placed in the lower exergual area flanked by the mintmaster initials H and R. The heraldic composition is finely engraved and occupies nearly the full reverse field.
