Obverse description Green intaglio-printed note with a fine guilloche border frame. At left, a classical female allegorical figure is seated in a vignette, with the numeral 5 in the lower left corner. The centre panel bears a landscape vignette of Willemstad harbour with sailing vessels, flanked by two signature lines labelled DE SECRETARIS and DE VOORZITTER. At right, a large dark numeral 5 is set within an ornate cartouche against a guilloche underprint, with the printer's imprint visible at lower right.

Reverse description Blue intaglio-printed note with a dense guilloche border incorporating diamond-shaped ornamental panels at left and right, each containing the numeral 5. The central vignette presents the crowned Netherlands royal coat of arms supported by two lions, resting on a ribbon. The text of the issuing ordinance is printed in small type above the coat of arms. The serial number and place-date CURAÇAO 1939 appear twice, once at upper left and once at lower right of the central panel.
