Obverse description Crowned quartered shield bearing four vertical pales (the arms of Aragon), flanked by the divided numeral value, all contained within two concentric beaded circles. A Latin legend surrounds the central device, identifying Louis XIII as king of France by divine grace. The heraldic shield is rendered in the medieval style typical of hammered Catalan coinage of the period.
