Obverse description A lion rampant to the left occupies the central field, rendered in bold relief within a raised inner circle. The surrounding legend reads F · D · AN : MANOEL DE VILHENA ·, referencing Grand Master Fra Don Antonio Manoel de Vilhena, and runs continuously between the inner circle and the outer rim. The overall design is compact and typical of early eighteenth-century Maltese coinage struck under the Order of St. John.
