| Obverse description | Central field features three caravels of Christopher Columbus's 1492 fleet arranged across the upper portion of the coin: the Niña at left, Santa María at center and largest, and Pinta at right, each rendered in fine relief with sails, rigging, and flags depicted in detail. Below the ships, the name SANTA MARIA appears as a caption, with NIÑA and PINTA flanking the central vessel. The lower field displays a detailed topographic map of Hispaniola, surrounded by stylized ocean waves. The circular legend REPUBLIQUE D'HAITI arcs along the upper periphery, with the date 1492 positioned just above the ships, and HISPANIOLA inscribed along the lower border.
