| Reverse description | The reverse bears the celebrated 'Hercule' type designed by Augustin Dupré, depicting the allegorical group of Hercules standing at center, his muscular figure draped from the waist, flanked by two female personifications of Liberty and Equality. Liberty is shown to his left holding a fasces, while Equality stands to his right with a balance and cornucopia. The legend 'UNION ET FORCE' arcs across the upper field. The engraver's signature 'Dupré' appears in the lower exergue area, accompanied by flanking dots and the acorn privy marks characteristic of this variety. A denticulated border frames the entire composition. |
