Reverse description The reverse presents a neoclassical allegorical group after the design of Augustin Dupré, depicting Hercules standing at centre, bearded and draped, flanked by two female figures personifying Liberty on the left and Equality on the right, all three joining hands in a gesture of union. Liberty holds a pike surmounted by a Phrygian cap, while Equality rests her hand upon a fasces topped with a level; an anchor is visible at lower right. The engraver's signature 'Dupré' appears in the lower exergue below the group. The legend 'UNION ET FORCE' arcs across the upper field. Acorn devices are present in the lower field consistent with the 'tight UNION' variety.
