| Additional information |
This piece belongs to a curious cottage industry of the late 1990s and early 2000s in which the Democratic Republic of Congo's central bank licensed its minting authority to produce coins with essentially no connection to Congolese history, economy, or culture. The "pink hat" designation refers to a specific photographic portrait of the Dutch queen used on the coin — one of several foreign monarchs and celebrities struck for the international collector market rather than any circulation purpose. Congo never intended these for domestic use.
