Obverse description The allegorical figure of the Republic, embodied as the Semeuse (Sower), strides left against the wind, her flowing robes and long hair streaming behind her; she wears a Phrygian cap and casts grain with her outstretched right hand. In the background to the right, rays of a rising sun illuminate the horizon. The engraver's signature O. ROTY appears incuse in the lower field. The legend REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE arcs around the upper portion of the coin, reflecting Louis-Oscar Roty's celebrated Art Nouveau design first introduced in 1897.

The vintage date appears below the sheaf. The national motto LIBERTÉ • ÉGALITÉ • FRATERNITÉ is inscribed in the surrounding legend, affirming the Republican values of the French state.
