Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of Prince Rainier III in right-facing profile, rendered in high relief with fine engraved detail by Raymond Joly. The legend RAINIER III - PRINCE DE MONACO arcs along the upper periphery, with the word ESSAI inscribed to the left of the bust in the field. The engraver's signature R. JOLY appears below the truncation. The date 1971 is positioned in the lower exergue, flanked by small decorative leaf ornaments. The design is bordered by a continuous inner ring of dentils.
