Obverse description Bare head of Napoleon I facing right, rendered in a classicising Roman imperial style, with naturalistically engraved short curly hair. The legend NAPOLEON EMPEROR. runs along the periphery, divided left and right of the portrait. The engraver's signature appears discreetly in the lower field below the truncation. A beaded border frames the entire design.

Reverse description The denomination '5' above 'FRANCS.' is displayed prominently at the centre of the field, enclosed within a symmetrical laurel wreath tied at the base with a ribbon bow. The circular legend REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE. runs along the upper periphery, with a beaded border enclosing the entire design.
