Obverse description Central device features the Star of Solomon (hexagram) rendered in high relief against an elaborately tooled field of interlacing Arabesque foliate scrollwork. At the centre of the star, within an oval cartouche, appears the Hijri date 1365 in Eastern Arabic-Indic numerals. The upper border carries the Latin legend EMPIRE CHERIFIEN, while the lower border bears the Arabic royal titulature of Sultan Mohammed V in cursive script, all enclosed within a beaded inner circle.

Reverse description Central field displays the denomination numeral 5 above the legend FRANCS, with ESSAI inscribed below in smaller letters, all contained within an ornate square frame set on its corner point (lozenge orientation) and surrounded by a circle of intricate Arabesque scrollwork. The upper border carries the Latin legend MAROC, while the lower border bears an Arabic inscription, all framed by a continuous band of stylised floral and geometric ornament characteristic of Moroccan Sharifian coinage design.
