The 1946 Moroccan essai coinage was produced under the French Protectorate administration, which retained control of monetary policy even as Mohammed V was increasingly positioning himself as a nationalist figurehead. Essais of this weight class — heavier than the circulation strikes — were trial pieces submitted for official approval, and relatively few were preserved outside institutional collections.
Lecompte 241 is the heavier silver variant, distinct from the standard essai specification for this type.
