The composition is surmounted by a royal crown and framed by elaborate laurel and palm branches tied at the base. The denomination 5 F appears prominently in the lower field, with ESSAI below, and the mint mark A at lower left. The flanking legends TITRE 900 MIL. and POIDS 25 GRAM are inscribed to the left and right respectively within the toothed border.
