Obverse description Bare-headed bust of Prince Louis II facing left, rendered in high relief in a naturalistic portrait style by engraver L. Maubert. The effigy occupies the central field, with the engraver's signature L. MAUBERT and the word ESSAI inscribed in the lower field beneath the truncation. The circular legend LOUIS II PRINCE DE MONACO runs along the upper periphery, framed by a beaded border.

Reverse description The elaborate full achievement of the arms of the Principality of Monaco occupies the central field, depicting the lozengy shield of the Grimaldi family in argent and gules, supported on either side by two armoured monks holding swords aloft, draped in mantling beneath a princely crown. The motto DEO JUVANTE appears on a ribbon across the base of the shield, accompanied by a decorative order medallion. The denomination 5 FRANCS is displayed in large numerals and lettering below the arms, with the date 1945 inscribed in the exergue, all within a beaded border.
