| Obverse description | Bare-headed, bearded effigy of King Léopold II in high-relief left-facing profile, rendered with fine naturalistic detail including flowing curled beard and wavy hair, within a beaded border. The encircling legend reads LEOPOLD II R.D.BELGES SOUV.DE L'ETAT INDEP.DU CONGO, identifying him as King of the Belgians and Sovereign of the Congo Free State. The engraver's signature L. WIENER appears in small capitals at the base of the portrait, just above the lower beaded border. |
