Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of Leopold I, King of the Belgians, in high-relief profile bust facing left, with finely rendered flowing hair and sideburns, truncated at the neck. The circular legend reads LEOPOLD PREMIER ROI DES BELGES around the periphery, with the engraver's signature DARGENT F. appearing in small letters below the bust truncation. The field is smooth and the portrait is executed in an accomplished medallic style. The rim is bordered by a bold beaded or dentilated collar.
