Reverse description The arms of Monaco — a lozenge-patterned shield of fusils in fess (bendy of argent and gules) — occupy the centre of the field, surmounted by a princely crown and supported on either side by two robed figures standing on a stepped plinth. The denomination 5 FRANCS is inscribed in large Roman capitals below the shield, with the date 1837 and mint mark M directly beneath. The engraver's signature E. ROGAT appears vertically along the lower right field, and the design is framed by a finely toothed border.
