Obverse description Right-facing bust of a curly-haired Alpine herdsman wearing a traditional hooded smock, commonly — though incorrectly — associated with the legendary figure William Tell. The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine detail in the hair and garment folds. The circular legend CONFOEDERATIO HELVETICA arcs along the upper periphery of the field, with the engraver's signature P. BVRKHARD and the incuse mark INCT appearing at the lower portion of the design.
