Reverse description The reverse of this control trial piece consists of the large lead matrix body, the face of which displays a series of concentric raised rings radiating outward from a central boss, all within an irregular, roughly finished round planchet. This side bears no legend, effigy, or decorative motif beyond the concentric circular ridges, which are characteristic of the back face of such épreuves de contrôle used by the Monnaie de Paris to verify die alignment and coin thickness during production control. The surface shows oxidation and minor surface irregularities consistent with a lead test piece. No mint mark or secondary inscription is present on this side.
