| Obverse description | Allegorical seated effigy of Helvetia facing left, classically draped in toga and crowned with a laurel wreath, her right arm raised in a gesture of authority while her left hand supports a shield bearing the Swiss cross. Agricultural motifs including a plow and wheat sheaves appear to the right of the figure, with an Alpine mountain landscape rendered in the left field. The legend HELVETIA appears along the upper field with the engraver's signature A. BOVY inscribed below. The design reflects the neoclassical style characteristic of mid-nineteenth-century Swiss coinage. |

| Reverse description | Central field bears the denomination and date in bold raised numerals and lettering: 5 Fr. above 1850. The inscription is encircled by a wreath composed of oak branches with acorns on the left and alpine rose branches in bloom on the right, the two sprays tied together at the base with a ribbon bow. A fine beaded border runs along the coin's circumference. The restrained, balanced composition is entirely typical of Antoine Bovy's engraving work for the nascent Swiss Federal coinage. |
