Additional information

The Banque Centrale des Etats de l'Afrique Equatoriale et du Cameroun was itself a transitional institution — established after independence to manage the CFA franc zone inherited from French colonial monetary structures, but dissolved in 1972 when it was replaced by the Banque des Etats de l'Afrique Centrale. This coin's date range maps almost exactly onto that institution's entire operational lifespan.

The switch to aluminium-nickel-bronze from the earlier aluminium composition of KM#1 reflected chronic vending and wear complaints across the member states: Chad, Central African Republic, Congo, Gabon, and Cameroon.
