Obverse description The coat of arms of Burundi is depicted at centre, featuring a shield charged with a lion's head, flanked by two scrolls bearing the motto UNITE · TRAVAIL · PROGRES, and surmounted by three crossed spears. The circular legend in Kirundi reads IBANKI YA REPUBLIKA Y'UBURUNDI around the upper periphery, with the national motto UBUMWE · IBIKORWA · AMAJAMBERE continuing around the lower field. The date appears at the bottom of the coin between two raised dots.
