| Obverse description | Left-facing bare-headed portrait bust of Lajos Kossuth, the Hungarian statesman and leader of the 1848 revolution, rendered in a bold, moderately high relief occupying the central field. The circular legend MAGYAR NÉPKÖZTÁRSASÁG arcs along the upper periphery, reading from lower left to lower right. The name KOSSUTH appears as a secondary legend at the base of the portrait, centered along the lower rim. The design is framed by a raised border, with no additional ornamental devices in the field. |

The mint mark BP. appears immediately below the emblem. The date is divided to either side of the emblem, with '19' to the left and the final two digits to the right.
