Additional information

Iraq's 1982 coinage was produced under Saddam Hussein's government during the early stages of the Iran-Iraq War, which had begun in September 1980. The shift to stainless steel for small denominations was a direct consequence of wartime resource pressures and the mounting cost of the conflict, which would ultimately run eight years and devastate the Iraqi economy.
