| Obverse description | Bare-headed left-facing bust of Chiang Kai-shek occupying the central field, rendered in high relief with fine detail to the hair and collar. Surrounding the effigy, a Chinese legend reading 中華民國二十六年 (Year 26 of the Republic of China) is arranged in two arcs flanking the portrait. The entire design is enclosed within a broad decorative border composed of an interlocking geometric meander (fret) pattern in the traditional Chinese style, separated from the inner field by a raised ring. |

This is a pattern strike, never approved for circulation — the Republic of China's 2nd series coinage reforms of the late 1930s were overtaken by events almost immediately. Full-scale Japanese invasion began in July 1937, and the Central Mint evacuated from Shanghai to Chungking within months, abandoning most production tooling. Pattern pieces from this period survived largely because they never entered the distribution pipeline at all.
