The Central Bank of China's Tsingtao Branch issues occupy a narrow and turbulent window — early 1949, when the Nationalist government was losing ground rapidly across the mainland. Branch-issued notes of this period reflect an administrative scramble: regional offices were authorized to issue low-denomination paper as the central monetary system fragmented under hyperinflationary pressure and military collapse.
Tsingtao itself fell to the People's Liberation Army in June 1949, making the operational lifespan of any note from this branch exceptionally short. Most circulated only weeks before becoming worthless.
