| Obverse description | The nine coats of arms of the Austrian provinces surround the `5` of the face value `5 EURO`. Around the coats of arms is the inscription `REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH` (Republic of Austria). The design is directly inspired by the old Austrian 50 schilling coins. |

The two oval portraits commemorate Emperor Franz Joseph and Max von Beck Wladimir, who were mainly responsible for the implementation of the reform.
