Portugal's "Art of Porcelain" series draws on the country's deep entanglement with the global ceramics trade — Portuguese traders were among the first Europeans to import Chinese porcelain in volume, and the word "porcelain" itself entered European languages partly through Portuguese mercantile contact with the East. The 2022 silver issue joins a parallel gold-and-silver release structure that Casa da Moeda has favored for collector themes, with KM#939a distinguishing the silver variant from its companion strikes.
