Obverse description The obverse features the celebrated Semeuse (Sower) figure in the gold center, depicted striding forward to the right in flowing robes, scattering seeds with her outstretched right hand while carrying a sack over her left arm, her hair streaming behind her in the wind. The Semeuse motif, originally designed by Louis-Oscar Roty, is rendered here in relief against the gold insert, which is shaped to evoke the large letter 'C' of the euro symbol. The silver outer ring is decorated with twelve five-pointed stars around the upper and lower periphery, flanked by vertical line patterns reminiscent of the euro banknote design. The date is split either side of the central device, '20' to the left and '02' to the right, with the monogram 'RF' (République Française) inscribed within the gold center to the right of the figure.
