Obverse description At center, the large numeral '5' is displayed within a circular field, surrounded by a nine-pointed star whose segments each contain the heraldic shield of one of Austria's nine federal states. The composite arrangement of regional coats of arms forms a decorative radiating pattern across the field. The circumferential legend 'REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH' arcs along the upper portion of the coin, while '5 · EURO ·' appears along the lower rim, both rendered in bold Latin characters conforming to the nonagonal shape of the flan.
