Reverse description Three classical female allegorical figures, rendered in a neoclassical style, stand in full length across the central field. The left figure, personifying Independence, holds an olive branch and a chain; the central figure, personifying Tolerance, balances a basket on her head and is accompanied by a small animal at her feet; the right figure, personifying Liberty, wears a mural crown and holds a sceptre. The denomination 5 EURO is prominently inscribed in the upper field, flanked by the legend INDIPENDENZA TOLLERANZA LIBERTA'. The mint mark R (Rome Mint) appears to the lower right, and the date 2003 is inscribed in the lower exergue.
