Additional information

Filfla is an uninhabited islet roughly five kilometers off Malta's southern coast, declared a strict nature reserve in 1980 after decades of use as a British military bombing range left it ecologically devastated. The Maltese wall lizard subspecies Podarcis filfolensis filfolensis, endemic to the islet, survived that bombardment in isolation and remains one of the more remarkable cases of reptile endemism in the Mediterranean.

This is the latest in the Central Bank's ongoing native fauna series in .9999 silver.
