Reverse description The reverse depicts a faithful reproduction of Portugal's first postage stamp of 1853, shown as a framed stamp vignette occupying most of the field. Within the stamp frame, a bare-headed left-facing profile effigy — representing Queen Maria II as originally designed by Francisco de Borja Freire — is surrounded by an ornate lace-pattern border with the word 'CORREIO' inscribed at the top of the stamp. The commemorative legend '150 ANOS DO PRIMEIRO SELO PORTUGUÊS' curves along the lower left margin of the coin, with the year '2003' inscribed vertically along the left edge.
