| Obverse description | Two Ariane launch vehicles are depicted in high relief against a stylised background of orbital arcs, stars, and celestial bodies, evoking the vastness of space. The denomination '5 EURO' appears prominently in the central field, with the RF monogram (République Française) to its left. The ESA logo is positioned in the upper right of the field. A circular legend along the left and lower rim reads '50 ANS DE COOPÉRATION SPATIALE EUROPÉENNE · 1964–2014', commemorating fifty years of European space cooperation. |

Issued to mark the fiftieth anniversary of ESRO, the European Space Research Organisation that preceded the ESA, this miniature gold piece was part of the Monnaie de Paris's "Mini Or" format — a commercial product line aimed squarely at the gift market rather than numismatic collectors. Actual collector interest has remained modest; the series trades more on gold spot than on numismatic premium.
