Obverse description Facing three-quarter bust of François Mitterrand, former President of the French Republic, occupying the brass centre field. The effigy is rendered in high relief with fine portrait detail. The legend 'REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE' arcs diagonally across the upper right field, with 'FRANÇOIS MITTERRAND' and the birth-death dates '1916-1996' inscribed diagonally below in the lower right. The bimetallic border ring frames the portrait in copper-nickel.
