Additional information

Issued to mark 400 years of Dutch-Australian contact, counting from Willem Janszoon's 1606 voyage aboard the Duyfken — the first recorded European navigation of Australian coastal waters. The Dutch were probing the Gulf of Carpentaria nearly two decades before any English expedition reached the continent's shores.

The €5 face value placed this squarely outside everyday circulation, a collector piece from the outset.
